Frequently Asked Questions
ADAC HEMS Academy hold
professional helicopter pilot training courses?
Naturally, we have plans to introduce basic training for qualification
for a professional helicopter pilot licence (CPL-H). We need to focus first
on recurrent training according to FCL 2 and JAR-OPS 3 (European directives)
for licensed pilots in Europe, test flights and qualification for type ratings
(EC 135, BK 117, BK 117 C 2) as well as additional medical training for
air rescue services due to the many enquiries we receive.
We will issue an announcement as soon as we are in a position to provide
basic training for the CPL-H licence.
Does the receipt of a type rating automatically qualify the holder
as a pilot for ADAC Luftrettung air rescue services?
A professional pilot intending to fly for air rescue will need documentation
of a thousand flight hours as the aircraft pilot responsible in whichever
company. Five hundred of these flight hours must have been flown in air
rescue or other deployment profiles such as police, Bundeswehr [German Federal
Army] or Bundespolizei [German Federal Police].
If these conditions are met, the applicant will need to pass an
aptitude test at Deutsche Forschungsanstalt für Luft- und Raumfahrt
[DLR, German Aerospace Centre] in Hamburg before being employed for
a position such as helicopter pilot at ADAC Luftrettung GmbH. An expert
committee will either issue a recommendation or not, depending on the
result of this psychological test. Finally, whether the applicant can
be employed at ADAC Luftrettung GmbH will depend on whether a planned
vacancy is available.
How much
does a training session on the ADAC HEMS Academy flight simulators cost?
The costs depend on various factors such as the number of hours booked,
type of course, staffing requirement and similar.
When will the simulation centre be open, and when will training
begin?
Training officially began at the simulation centre on June
24, 2009.
The ADAC HEMS Academy currently holds medical training and further training
courses in its premises for ADAC Luftrettung GmbH. The Academy will also
be holding further training courses towards HEMS Crew Member (HCM) qualification
for paramedics. Other courses and training formats are in preparation,
and will be announced on our website.
Routine training for pilots will probably begin in early 2010 after flight-simulator
optimisation and acceptance testing by suppliers as well as certification
by the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt [German Air Authority].
Does the ADAC HEMS Academy provide HCM training?
The ADAC HEMS Academy only provides HEMS Crew Member (HCM) training for
paramedics registered for this further qualification programme by the
various air-rescue organisations. The Academy currently has no plans
to train applicants paying privately.
ADAC Luftrettung GmbH only sends paramedics that have already qualified
for deployment in air rescue after a selection process.
Where do I find information on ADAC-Luftrettung medical training
at ADAC HEMS Academy?
The dates for intensive transport courses held by ADAC Luftrettung GmbH
are currently listed at www.intensivtransportkurs.de and www.christoph-sim.de.
Information on all the other course formats will be presented on these
pages. Medical training will focus on human-factor course formats and
simulation trainings. Our training range will first concentrate on medical
crews deployed by ADAC Luftrettung GmbH.
