Training facilities

HEMS Academy pilot training centres on two full-flight simulators (JAR-FSTD H Level A) for EC 135 and EC 145 helicopters. Both simulators are manufactured by cueSim based in the UK.

The two simulators each have a 210° horizontal and 60° vertical angle of visibility, the latter divided into 20° upward and 40° downward visibility. The system is based on ten high-power projectors arranged in two rows of five. This projector system ensures realistic projection of any possible weather, lighting, and visibility, while also supporting NVG (night-vision goggles) flight simulation.

Each simulator takes the form of a bubble dome around six metres across mounted on a moving platform. The moving platform is supported on six linear actuators at three points giving the dome six degrees of freedom. The motion system belongs to the highest official category, allowing flight simulations that would not be possible in a real helicopter due to the safety issues involved.
